Double-Reed Woodwind Library

The crumhorn is a double-reed woodwind instrument that was mostly employed during the Renaissance but returned to popular culture in the 1960s as a result of a resurgence in interest in early music.

The crumhorn's structure is akin to the chanter of a piper, giving it a loud buzzing, bagpipe-like sound while also allowing for a wide range of conceivable timbres and colors.

Have Audio recorded a lovely tenor crumhorn using the "onion" bell mouth (Cromorno d'Amore), which produces a magnificent muted vox humana sound, as well as with the bell open and closed.

While being much simpler in features compared to VSL's Studio Crumhorn, this plugin by Have Audio provides a rich, dry close mic sound and captures the buzz of the reed instrument. It doesn't seem have velocity layers, round robins, or sophisticated controls, but the lack of these things don't seem to have a huge impact of the sound and feel of the instrument. Handcrafting grace notes and ornamentations with the regular sustain articulation sounds great as well. Compared to what's currently offered at this time, I highly recommend this crumhorn plugin!
