The next chapter in the Poiesis strings series has arrived: Poiesis Cello 2.
‘Poiesis’ describes the act of bringing something new into existence, and this instrument offers exactly that—an expressive and unconventional tool for rich, dynamic textures. From octave harmonics to bow bounces and reiterations, it covers a broad sonic range, from tender and reflective to nervously unsettling.
Recorded for an Intimate and Versatile Sound
As with the previous version, Poiesis Cello 2 was recorded in a dry studio environment using three high-end microphones for a close and intimate sound:
- Neumann U87 (large diaphragm condenser)
- AEA R84A (ribbon)
- Schoeps CMC/mk4 (small diaphragm condenser)
A pre-rendered stereo mix (MIX), combining these microphones in LCR position with additional processing, provides a resource-friendly sound, ready for immediate use.
The featured instrument is a 1995 Moes & Moes cello, custom-built for and owned by Yo-Yo Ma, performed by Alan Black, principal cellist of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra.

- Evolving soundscapes are easily created with an intuitive XY pad.
- Includes close to 100 presets as starting points for custom sound design.
Two Instruments Included
-
Poiesis Cello: Designed for creating evolving textural soundscapes by blending two articulations in a 2-layer engine, providing a record-ready mix.

Poiesis Cello Articulation Keyswitch: Allows for precise control over individual articulations with a customizable key-switching system or velocity-based articulation switching.
Tuning Improvements
