With a team of 70 graphic designers, sound designers, producers and developers, we set out to expand far beyond the limits of a typical synthesizer.

SIGNAL’s content is massive – including over 40GB of multi-dynamic and round-robin sources. The engine combines 4 separate rhythms, all locked to your DAW and each controlled individually. These can be different rhythms playing together or combine them for one great big fat pulse. The combination of warm, fat synthetic sounds and beautiful organic instruments make for something new and not yet heard.

Under the hood, SIGNAL brings together every form of pulse making we could think of; Arpeggiators, LFO’s, step sequencers and “Looper”. All patches, or Pulse Instruments are organized by tag in the preset menu, making it very easy to access exactly what you want. Each Pulse Instrument features its own unique set of central sliders. We’ve all become accustomed to products with one big central knob - SIGNAL has 4 and each is built for that particular Pulse Instrument. Use the sliders to make the sound your own, add continuous movement, assign it to a real knob for live use or even use our custom Lemur or Touch OSC template to tweak with an iPad. Sliders are not just effect sends, these are macros controlling multiple parameters at once. For example with a touch of a slider you can morph rhythms, control multiple filters and infinite effects combinations. And of course, everything is editable.

Some of the tools are not unlike those I’ve encountered when reviewing other Kontakt instruments like Sample Logic’s Xosphere and Cinematic Keys, but Output’s take on things is different. I found it very easy to use and was impressed with both the basic samples, which sound very nice, and the range of tools available for processing them. Sound designers could easily find themselves doing a lot of donkey work with this one instrument and electronic artists are sure to find it a source of inspiration.

Es ist erstaunlich was für einen Entwiscklungssprung ein Hersteller von einem Produkt zum Nächsten machen kann. Sugnal übertrifft den Vorgänger Rev bei Weitem. Die Grenzen des Möglichen der Kontakt-Enginge scheinen versetzt worden zu sein - grafisch wie funktionell. Im Ergebnis ist ein Signal ein handwerklich herausragende umgesetztes Instrument, das auch im Klang am Puls der Zeit liegt.
