Beyond Effects: Feedback as Instrument
Lines is a complex effects processor and feedback synthesizer that crosses borders between signal processing and sound creation. It mangles audio into lo fi telephone tones, lush phasing, warm distortion, crushing feedback, ring modulation, and striking frequency shifts. Blend external input with its internal engines and an entirely new spectrum of sound unfolds.
Inspired by the rare Axel Line Simulator from 1970s Jamaica, New York, Lines recreates the character of a device built to simulate signal loss on telephone and data lines. Painstaking component level modeling captures its jitter, noise, filters, and distortion. Expanded ranges, added filters, a pulse sequencer, and full sync and modulation turn it into a playable feedback instrument made for fearless exploration.
