Turn Samples into Playable Spectral Sounds

AudioThing Materia is an additive re-synthesizer that analyzes any sample and transforms it into a playable instrument. The source material is broken down into harmonic partials whose frequency, amplitude, phase, and evolution over time can then be edited in detail.

Up to 96 partials can be shaped individually and equipped with their own 128-point envelopes. This makes it possible to preserve the character of the original material or transform it into entirely new synthetic sound worlds. With full polyphonic playback, Materia is equally suited to pads, keys, textures, and experimental or atmospheric sounds.

Spectrum, Modulation, and Effects

In addition to detailed partial editing, Materia offers a flexible filter with ten modes, two envelopes, and two LFOs with fully drawable waveforms. The effects section includes a resonator, echo, phaser, and waveshaper. The resonator can model different materials such as glass, wood, stone, gongs, membranes, and springs to add distinctive resonant characteristics.

The analyzed sound model is stored directly with the plug-in state, allowing projects and presets to be reopened without the original sample file.
