Ueberschall bringt mit Urbanic ein weiteres Elastik-Player-Produkt auf den Markt, das sich musikalisch der Genres RnB und HipHop annimmt. Die Urbanic-Library besteht aus 34 Construction-Kits, aufgeteilt in Intro, Outro, Main und Variation.
Urbanic beinhaltet über 2.8 GB "Cutting-Edge"-Sounds für HipHop und RnB.

Die einzelnen Construction-Kits sind in verschiedene Ordner - Main-Kit, Variation-Kit sowie Intro, Outro und Drum-Sounds unterteilt. Diese Anordnung ermöglicht das schnelle Arrangieren und Produzieren neuer Tracks in allen Varianten.

Hinter Urbanic stehen namhafte Black-Music-Produzenten wie Michael Jackson, Dj Drastic und Marc Steinmeier, die ihrerseits schon mit Künstlern wie NAS, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Willie Joe und Eminem gearbeitet haben.

The instrumental riffs and synth parts, on the other hand, include a lot of really good imaginative stuff, nailing ‘cheesy-but-cool’, without wallowing complacently in tired GM Soundfront clichés. There’s a large helping of those fizzy polysynth pads that are springing up all over the charts like a rash at the moment (think Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’, for example), as well as some nice crusty effects and judicious vinyl patina. Basses are often enormous and packed with character — a highlight of the library for me – and there are also some lovely wordless sampled vocal phrases, obviously digitally manipulated but with a deft musicality that really works.

Fortunately, a lot of these criticisms are mitigated by the construction-kit format, allowing you to underpin Urbanic’s bass and instrumental riffs with other drum parts that really put the boot in. Also in the library’s favour is the way its respectable 2.8GB bulk has been organised within Ueberschall’s bespoke Elastik Player (for more information on this, check out my review of Groove Shadow Elastik back in SOS February 2008). There are 34 themed sets of construction kits, each set containing main, intro and outro kits, as well as another variation kit in some cases, and each set of kits also includes an additional Elastik Player preset containing single-hit drum samples taken from the main drum loop. Each set’s original key and tempo is displayed, but the Elastik Player technology provides a lot of flexibility for bending samples outside these to fit pre-existing tracks.

So although Urbanic might not exactly supply all your hip-hop and R&B needs, there’s enough here to make it worth checking out if you’ve already got the basics covered elsewhere in your sample vault, but are on the lookout for some creative instrumental hooks to freshen things up.

The Kits do have a phat arrangment. The grooves have punch ad infinitum, the melodical parts are not too pushy so there is enough space for a new melody.

A big advantage for the creative process in comparisson to other Sampling-CDs. At last Urbanic doesn‘t cost more as any other library while the competitors don‘t offer a sample player.

The library comes with two files split into 34 Construction Kits all around Hip-Hop and RnB. Each kit has an intro-, main-, outro- and sometimes a variation-part. With a complete mix and single lines each. They also include the single drum shots. All in all we have 1.280 loops and samples within 2.8 GB. Musical the kits are very well produced with a huge creativ input, this is truly the experience of the producers.

Conclusion:
The very flexible Elastik-Engine is just as made for the work with Hip-Hop Construction Kits. Fast workflow, clear structure and a very easy way to change tempo and pitch of each kit to suit them to each other or any other project. A big advantage for the creative process in comparisson to other Sampling-CDs. At last Urbanic doesn‘t cost more as any other library while the competitors don‘t offer a sample player.

Es gibt genug das es Wert ist die Library auszuchecken wenn man bereits die Basis mit anderen Samlples abgedeckt hat aber auf der Suche nach kreativen instrumental Hooks ist um seinen Track ein bischen aufzufrischen.

Die instrumental Riffs und Synth Parts bieten eine gute Fülle an inspirierendem Material. Das Motto lautet „cheesy-but-cool“ ohne in langweiligen Soundfonts Clichés zu versinken. Es gibt eine große Menge an Fizzy-Polysynth-Pads die man heute immer wieder in den Charts rum springen sieht (z.B. Rihanna‘s Umbrella) und eine ganze Stange an crusty Effects. Die Bässe sind enorm und haben einen schönen Charakter - ein highlight der Library - genau wie die lieblichen Vocal Phrasen, offensichtlich digital bearbeitet aber mit einem Sinn für Musikalität der funktioniert.

Glücklicherweise wird einiges an den oben erwähnten Kritikpunkten durch das Construction-Kit Format wieder gut gemacht. Damit kann man ohne Probleme die Bass- und Instrumental-Parts von Urbanic mit anderen Drum Spuren kombinieren.

Es gibt insgesamt 34 Construction Kits, jedes Kit beinhaltet Main, Intro und Outro Kits und in manchen Fällen sogar eine weitere Variation des Themas. Darüberhinaus kommt jedes Kit mit den Single Sounds der Drumloops. Tonart und Tempo sind mit angegeben können aber dank Elastik flexible an bestehende Tracks angepasst werden.

Auch wenn Urbanic nicht direkt alle Hip-Hop und R&B wünsche erfüllen mag. Es gibt genug das es Wert ist auszuchecken wenn man bereits die Basis mit anderen Samlples abgedeckt hat aber auf der Suche nach kreativen instrumental Hooks ist um seinen Track ein bischen aufzufrischen.

Ein steter Strom an DVDs fließt von Ueberschall und versorgt die Nutzer des Elastik-Players unablässig mit neuem Klangfutter. Hier geht’s um Black Music in ihrer urbans-ten Form,aka R’n’B und HipHop.(...)Inhaltlich bekommt man bei Urbanic 33 Construction-Kits,die im Auswahlmenü nocheinmal unterteilt sind in Intro,Outro,Main, Einzelsamples und Variation.(...)Die Kits sind überaus fett arrangiert. Die Grooves drücken ohne Ende,und die melodischen Abschnitte sind nicht allzu aufdringlich,sodass man noch eigene Melodien dazu erfinden kann.(...) Wenn Construction-Kits, dann von Ueberschall – die klingen fast immer amtlich.

Wie auch schon bei Analog FX kommt hier der Elastik-Player zum Einsatz, mit all den oben erwähnte Vor-, aber auch Nachteilen.

Sounds:

Die Sound-Bibilothek besteht aus zwei großen Files, die insgesamt 34 Construction Kits zum Thema Hip-Hop und RnB beinhalten. Jedes Kit besteht aus Intro, achttaktigem Main, Outro und mitunter auch Variation, einmal wiederrum als Tutti-Loop, dann als Loops mit Einzelinstrumenten. Die Drumsounds gibt es zusätzlich auch als Einzelsamples. In der Summe macht das 1.280 Loops und Samples auf 2.8 GB.
Musikalisch zeichnen sich die technischen sauber produzierten Kits durch kreativen Einfallsreichtum aus; da schlägt klar die Berufserfahrung der Produzenten durch.

Fazit:

Der sehr flexible Elastik-Player ist wie geschaffen für die Arbeit mit Hip-Hop Construction Kits. Schnelle Zugriffsmöglichkeiten, übersichtliche Sortierung und extrem einfache Anpassung an Tempo und Tonhöhe der Kits untereinander erleichtern den kreativen Schaffensprozess im Vergleich zu herkömmlichen Sampling-CDs ganuz ungemein. Zweiter Pluspunkt ist das exzellente und große Angebot an Sounds in Urbanic. Dass Urbanic schließlich nicht mehr kostet als Konkurrenz ohne Player sollte auch den letzten Hip-Hop und RnB Produzenten zu diesem Produkt greifen lassen.
