Ample China Pipa – Traditional Character with Modern Playing Depth

Ample China Pipa brings the bright, crisp and highly expressive sound of a traditional Chinese Pipa into your studio. With clearly defined attacks, characteristic tremolo and dynamic strumming techniques, the instrument covers a wide range from delicate, lyrical passages to fast and powerful performances.

The library includes two sample libraries – Modern and Traditional – with a total of 8.6 GB of high-quality sample content. A handcrafted reproduction of a Ming Dynasty Fengwei Pipa by Weidong Cao was recorded, performed by Yin Chen, Principal Pipa of the China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra, and Lisha Shang.

Expressive Articulations, Tremolo and Authentic Strumming

Ample China Pipa offers 11 articulations, including Sustain, Natural Harmonic, Straight Tremolo, Expressive Tremolo, Legato Slide, Hammer-On & Pull-Off, Bend and Release, Bend Up, Bend Down, Short Tremolo and Strum. Three fast continuous techniques – Tremolo, Roll Tremolo and Shake Tremolo – are fully sampled. Tremolo also supports legato, slides and infinite looping.

The Polyphonic Legato and Slide Smoother enables realistic transitions across any interval and speed. Authentic left-hand performance noises and adjustable acoustic resonance add further realism to the playing experience.

Riffer 4 and Flexible Strumming

Riffer 4 is tailored specifically to plucked string instruments and introduces a new strumming and chord system. With the “Strum Note” concept, multiple notes within a chord can be edited as a single object, allowing unified control over strum time, velocity gradient and legato parameters. Piano Roll and Tab views, string visualization, Auto Expression, Auto Vibrato and direct editing of articulations, fingering, MIDI CC and velocity make realistic performances easier to program.

The integrated Strummer supports two chord modes, freely definable chords and rhythmically flexible strum sequences. An extensive rhythm library with MIDI drag & drop provides additional starting points for arrangements.
