Experimental Tuned Gongs with Clearly Defined Pitch
Hopkin Flat Gongs is an unusual tuned percussion library for Kontakt, based on a custom instrument design by master instrument inventor Bart Hopkin. The sampled instrument is a three-and-a-half-octave set of flat aluminum disks, carefully tuned to produce clear and unambiguous pitches.
The range extends from a powerful C2 up to G5. Sonically, the library moves between floating, ethereal and resonant textures, making it equally suitable for melodic percussion, atmospheric layers and experimental sound design.
From Soft Strikes to Scrapes and Drones
The library includes soft and hard mallet strikes, center and edge hits, knocks, taps, rubs and scrapes, captured in two stereo microphone positions. Up to 8 round robins and 8 velocity layers per note provide natural dynamics and variation. The acoustic material is complemented by 60 ambient pads and evolving drones created from the original recordings.
The flexible engine also includes LFO modulation, multiple filter types, a customizable arpeggiator and a key and scale lock system. A comprehensive FX rack with convolution reverb opens up further options for spatial and creative sound shaping.
