Playable two-note slurs for expressive string textures

There’s a unique energy and life that string instruments bring to music, especially when traveling between two notes in a single bow stroke. By leaning expressively into the first note and allowing the second note to naturally fold into the release of the first, they blend into one cohesive gesture. This nuanced connection is difficult to replicate if the notes are recorded separately and stitched together later.

Playing two-note slurs across varying dynamics is particularly gratifying. To capture this feeling, the samples are recorded as swells. At the start of the swell, the second note can be so faintly played that its pitch is almost imperceptible—like a ghost note. As the sound intensifies, the slurs adapt and evolve naturally, keeping the expression fresh.

As with many other Osterhouse Sounds libraries, these are not standard string articulations. Instead, they showcase a specific playing style that translates surprisingly well when mapped to a piano keyboard. The aim is to inspire you to explore new ways of incorporating strings into your music, whether through sample libraries or by collaborating with session musicians.

Requires Full Version of Kontakt 6.8 and above (Not the free Kontakt Player).
