As for buying considerations, I think the value is in the multi-faceted ways Shevannai can be used. While some might compare Shevannai’s main legato to those with more extensive word-builder capabilities, the approach here is really about the way the Elven content itself intentionally evades a “known” word-specific focus – the mystery of sung, spoken, and whispered musings are the true appeal. And still, I think the unique vocalist is a great addition to any sampled vocal library collection, as are the soundscapes which make Shevannai a great sound design consideration as well.

I had thought elves were rare these days, but with well over 4000 samples in this collection, it seems those who didn't 'sail into the West' are very talkative. In total there are 33 words, 27 staccato words, 52 elven phrases, 57 whispered elven poems and 110 different short whispers. This is a surprisingly useful resource, whether for New Age CDs, fantasy video games or fantasy films — not exactly a tiny market. But there's more. Lately, I've noticed it's increasingly common to be grilled about the meaning of any foreign vocal samples as library music companies try to avoid offence. The neat thing about singing in elvish is you're unlikely to offend anyone — except possibly members of the Tolkien Society who, at worst, will grumble quietly amongst themselves before returning to their real ale and pipeweed.

Eduardo Tarilonte hat mit Shevannai wieder einmal bewiesen, dass er zu Besonderem im Stande ist. Mit Pioniergeist und Ideenreichtum hat er es geschafft, eine Sample-Library mit kreativen Potenzial und hohem Wiedererkennungswert zu erschaffen. Die Stimme von Lara Ausensi wurde qualitativ hochwertig aufgenommen und lässt sich bei Bedarf auch sehr nuanciert per Tastatur spielen. Klanglich ist Shevannai die beste Sample-Stimme, die ich bisher spielen durfte und mit den typischen Chor- und Vocal-Beigaben von großen Sample-Librarys nicht zu vergleichen. Die Spezialisierung auf die Stimme der Elfen (Elben) ist sowieso schon ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal und auch sonst gibt es nur wenige Librarys, die sich mit solcher Akribie der menschlichen Stimme widmen.

Good Elf?
The probem, if there is one, is not of quality or price as the recordings are pristine and beautiful and the price is very reasonable. It's more to do with the narrow focus of the collection. The soundscapes are excellent. A quality collection for a very specific job, however, Shevannai is excellent.

Fazit: Shevannai ist sicherlich keine Sample-Library für den Massenmarkt. Viel mehr handelt es sich um ein sehr spezialisiertes Tool für einen ganz bestimmten Einsatzzweck. Wer aber genau das braucht, nämlich weiblichen Sologesang mit einem hervorragend umgesetzten Legato, der findet dies hiermit in ziemlich kompromissloser Qualität und mit gut bedienbaren Eingriffsmöglichkeiten. Der Preis mag angesichts der Beschränkung auf ein einziges Instrument etwas hoch erscheinen, gemessen an der hochwertigen Produktion und der gelungenen Spielbarkeit ist dieser aber absolut in Ordnung!

apporte une vraie voix humaine dans votre production, ce n'est pas un de ces "sons presque comme''. est aussi réelle qu'une vraie  chanteuse. Donc, c'est juste une question de savoir, si vous avez besoin ou non d'une telle banque. De mon coté, je l'ai définitivement
adoptée. J'ai même l'intention de l'utiliser avec mes chanteurs. La voix humaine a été et sera toujours l'instrument le plus beau et le plus impressionnant

The Finale

All in all, this library costs as much as any average virtual instrument, but for that money you get your personal live vocalist. To me, this is priceless. Shevannai brings a real human voice in your production, it is not one of those “sounds almost like” or “pretty damn close” sort of libraries. It is as real as a recorded real vocalist could be real. It sounds as if your work was done by one of the best worlds recording magicians. So, it is just a matter of question whether you need such thing or not. I definitively need it. I even plan to use it along with my vocalists. Human voice was and will ever be the most impressive instrument known to the human race.

FAZIT

Shevannai ist eine sehr spezialisierte Library und bietet für die Liebhaber von Fantasy und Mittelalter eine beeindruckende Vielfalt an Klängen. Aber auch für Dance Produktionen kann ein gesprochener Satz auf elbisch interessant sein, immerhin kann man sich so von Masse der anderen Produktionen abheben und seit dem Herrn der Ringe ist das elbische ja so ziemlich allen Musikhörern bekannt.

Der Gesang der mit Shevannai auf der Tastatur gespielt werden kann ist sehr authentisch und „gefühlsecht“ wer sich hier richtig dahinter klemmt bekommt beeindruckende Ergebnisse.
