Versatile, expressive plucked legato upright bass

The Upright is plucked legato upright bass library for Kontakt.

Musical Samping had been talking about doing this one for a while, but they weren’t sure it’d properly benefit from the sampling techniques they employed for their legato guitar libraries. Thankfully, they were proven wrong and the end result exceeded the expectations.

For the Master Legato patch, they included natural legato up to a major 3rd, slide-plucks up to an octave and slide no-plucks up to a major 2nd (the latter two with slide speed CC control). Great patch for a variety of settings due to its enhanced expressive capabilities.

The Performance Sustains patch is a real workhorse; comprised of samples all pulled from curated phrases - enhancing the tone, consistency and fluidity.

The Body Perc includes a collection of slaps, thumps, knocks, fret slides and room tone - all of which are mapped below the playable range of the upright bass. With this setup you can arm both patches simultaneously and jam away.

The bass sounds wonderful. But… ….when playing back midi files and trying them with this bass, you should know that there’s a considerable lag. Your bass line will no longer be in sync with drums, piano, guitar.I contacted *** and he was quick to answer this. He confirmed the lag, which is intentional (and for good reason). His reply was: “ That's easy enough to resolve - just set your MIDI track delay to a negative setting until it locks up with your drums. Unlike other upright bass libraries, our plucks include a bit of pre-roll "pre-pluck" information, so you'll need to adjust your MIDI track delay.”For what I use it for, this makes it not very usable, but for new compositions, you could take this into consideration. Just thought customers should be aware of this. Like trombone players or baritone sax players you should play slightly ahead of time. For me, that is not what I was looking for… So, disappointed.

Positiv: Sehr realistischer Sound, kein Schnickschnack, gutes Preis/Leistungsverhältnis...Negativ: Extrem hohe Latenzzeit (habe ich bei anderen Instrumenten nicht), keine Möglichkeiten, den Sound zu beeinflussen
