The Orchestra, header

The Orchestra is a revolutionary all-in-one 80 player orchestral library whose heart is our breakthrough Ensemble-Engine that empowers you to turn your ideas into music. Simple and incredibly fast.

Sonuscore: "We found a way to revolutionize your way of composing complex orchestrated music. It’s a new simplicity, a more natural approach to cope with multifaceted orchestral colors and rhythms."

The idea behind The Orchestra

Orchestral libraries have become more and more complex over the last years. Developers captured every nuance of symphonic orchestras in countless different articulations. But with a tight deadline, having endless possibilities is not necessarily a good thing.

With this library, Sonuscore brings to life a simplistic approach to orchestral composition, giving you both innovative tools to create quick ensemble sketches with minimal effort or to write complex orchestral arrangements in all detail.

Paint your orchestral canvas in as broad or as detailed strokes as you want.

Your ideas, your music – all in one instrument.

complete orchestra

The Core - The Ensemble Engine

The Ensemble Engine works through a number of independent arpeggiators and velocity envelopes, heavily inspired by our Sonuscore Origins-Series. Create pulsating rhythms and even inspiring full arrangements from any combination of notes. All of this without relying on prerecorded phrases – you have the full control. It will work, no matter what chord or note you play.
With minimum loading times, a vast amount of presets provides you with full ensemble colors right out of the box.

  • Independent arpeggiators and velocity envelopes create vivid and powerful orchestral colors.

  • Load up to 5 different instruments in independent slots and play them together.

main screen

Compose faster with full instrumental groups

Choose from 192 presets in three categories:

  • Orchestral Colors
The Orchestral Colors presets are practical combinations of instruments that can be played live on your keyboard.

  • Orchestral Rhythms
The Orchestral Rhythms contain simple, useful playable patterns for separate sections of the orchestra that make use of our Ensemble Engine.

  • Animated Orchestra
The animated orchestra presets go even further, and create complex orchestrated rhythms from any played note. This is where the magic happens!

Play the instruments freely:

Play your ideas and your melodies freely with the single instrument patches.
Aside from the Ensemble Instrument, The Orchestra also contains 89 single instrument patches for all standard sections and articulations in a symphonic orchestra, including percussion, a Glockenspiel and as a bonus: choir.

Or unleash the full orchestral power with over 75 multi-track patches:

Multis take the Ensemble Engine even further toward instant playability and sound as they load and layer multiple instances of The Orchestra.
There are Full Orchestral Multis for single articulations, that work perfectly for quick sketching and layering.
Animated Multis combine multiple instances of the Ensemble Engine for even more complex patterns.

The samples: rough & edgy - no polished sound:

The Orchestra was recorded and processed with the intention to sound a bit rougher and more “honest” than the common orchestral Hollywood sound. It offers an alternative and promises straight and powerful sounds, punch and a vivid musical experience.

recording studio

The instruments for The Orchestra were recorded in Budapest at the renowned Studio 22 in their traditional seating position and mixed and edited with great attention to detail. This way the different sections blend together perfectly in the same room. All essential articulations are available, including playable true legato samples and multiple round robins for short articulations.

With a price tag of $399 The Orchestra resides in the mid-range level of orchestral libraries. Its unique approach to pattern-based composition and the well executed UI are highly satisfying. Be it for quick musical notes or full orchestral arrangements in detail, this library is an excellent tool to carve out your next epic score. Find an additional library for percussion and you will be prepared for both musical prove-of-concepts as well as finalized orchestral arrangements.

This is a very useful collection of sounds, and ideal for making orchestral music for video or film. The Sounds are good despite the modest installation size, with the added bonus that they all load rapidly and  are light on the computer’s resources.
Sonuscore’s The Orchestra is great fun to play and quite simple to understand. There are also some excellent instructional videos on the company’s website: I highly recommend you visit to find out more about this collection.

Conclusion (excerpt)

Ultimately, the sheer joy of this library in contrast to "fixed phrase" libraries is that you can create your own content, and make it uniquely yours. The only challange now is for me to stop playing around and write some music with this thing!

If you are a busy professional composer who needs to create fairly complex-sounding music in a hurry, or want a good sketching library, or you are an enthusiast who just wants to have a lot of fun creating music without the fussiness of employing traditional orchestration techniques while working with sample libraries, this is well worth your consideration.

It is infinitely customizable. There is no reason your compositions utilizing it have to sound like everybody else’s. If you turn off or down the built in reverb, it is not hard to layer other libraries with it. If you want something that sounds big and busy in a hurry, it is hard to beat.

Finally, darn it, it is FUN !!

Auszug: Fazit

  • The Orchestra-Engine Funktion
  • realistischer Sound
  • Flexibilität
  • Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis

  • keine Mikrofonpositionen enthalten

Buenas Ideas

There’s a lot to love about this instrument. Not only do the multi-sampled instruments sound great, but the whole Ensemble Engine and Multi-paradigm bring orchestral part creation to a new level of simplicity.

I have to admit, my feelings about this instrument evolved significantly the more I got to know it.

At first, I thought, this made it too easy. Anyone could play with one finger and create fantastic sounding orchestrations. This will be the beginning of the end of true orchestration skill; not unlike the first impressions many had about singing when Autotune and Melodyne came out. And as I scrolled through the Multis I thought to myself that everyone using this instrument will create music that sounds the same. The multis are great for big dramatic gestures.

But what about more nuanced control over what is generated?

I warmed up to it very quickly though as I got to know and understand how the engine system works. For those willing to take the time to move beyond the preset rhythms and one-finger-gratification aspect of this instrument, there is a world of new workflows and possibilities here.

It would have been nice if Sonuscore had included a simple Ensemble that was completely blank, to be used as a starting point for building your own. The first thing I did was clear one out and save it as an empty preset. I then started building my own and realized how elegant this whole system is. I can see myself saving a series of presets with arpeggiator patterns laid out, but with the instrument slots empty. It’s like having a palette of orchestral rhythms available to be used in different ways on different instruments.
