Producing this outstanding collection of six exceptionally noble bass instruments, sampled with all imaginable details took more than a year for Chris Hein. A Musicman Stingray electric-bass picked & slapped, a LeFay fretless bass and a unique upright bass with three different sets of strings: steel-strings (the classic jazz sound), nylon-strings (the high-fidelity sound) and gut-strings (the old-school swing sound of the 40s). The exceeding script programming in Kontakt allows sound design that overtops even the possibilities of the real basses.
For the first time all nuances of bass playing techniques are implemented in a sample library. This virtual instrument offers 112 MIDI controllable features including groundbreaking, new characteristics like repetition-hotkeys, keys-vibrato, fall-control, bridge/center playing, pickup micro-blending, expression-samples, pinch-harmonics, automatic-mode, slide-mode, chord-mode and much more.

Testbericht : Chris Hein Bass Keys Ausgabe Juli 2008 (Fazit) Chris Hein wird seinem Anspruch, die derzeit umfangreichste Bass-Library am Markt zu platzieren, in vollem Maße gerecht. Mit der intuitiv zu bedienenden Oberfläche, den durch 112 MIDI-Controller steuerbaren Automationsparametern sowie einem sehr natürlichen Klang, sind dem viersaitigen Fundament für die DAW keine Grenzen gesetzt. Best Service legt zudem eine Amp-Simulation des Ampeg SVX Uno von IK Multimedia als OEM-Version bei und rundet so das umfangreiche Paket gebührend ab. Das händeringende Suchen nach dem berühmten Mann mit den vier Saiten findet damit doch noch sein verdientes Happy End.

Sound & Recording 08/2008 Testbericht : Chris Hein Bass Sound & Recording 08/08 In zwölf Monaten Produktionszeit hat Chris Hein drei Bässe in umfangreichen Artikulationen, mit bis zu acht Velocity-Abstufungen gesampelt und im Kontakt-Format aufbereitet. So ziemlich jeder sinnvolle Basssound ist vertreten, neben den Standard-Sustains gibt es u.a. Hammer-ons, Pull-offs, Dead-Notes, Slides, Strums, Falls und natürlich Flageolets. Insgesamt sind ca. 20.000 Samples zusammengekommen, die fast 13 GB auf der Platte belegen. Mit dabei sind ein Music Man Stingray (gepickt und geslappt), ein Edelfretless der Firma LeFay und ein Kontrabass, der mit drei verschiedenen Besaitungen (Stahl, Nylon, Darm) aufgezeichnet wurde. Chris Hein hat wieder einiges an Innovationen parat, wie z.B. Repetition-Hotkeys, die den zuletzt gespielten Ton eine Oktave transportiert wiederholen, was eine völlig neue Art darstellt, komplexe Basslinien auf einem Keyboard einzuspielen. Außerdem lassen sich u.a. über Keyswitches Falls und andere Effekte auslösen, sowie die Position der rechten Hand per Controller frei zwischen Bridge und Center verschieben. Beim Kontrabass kann man zwischen dem mikrofonierten Klang und dem Pickup-Signal überblenden. Der Kontakt2-Player macht ausgiebig Gebrauch von der Scripting-Technologie, um z.B. Slides zu automatisieren. Enthalten ist eine spezielle Version des Ampeg-Bass-Amp-Modeling-Plug-Ins SVX Uno, das kostenpflichtig auf die Vollversion upgegradet werden kann.
