Modern and progressive metal drums have to do it all: brutal weight, sharp definition and tons of nuance. For this EZX for EZdrummer 3 and Superior Drummer 3, we teamed up with Jay Postones of TesseracT to deliver exactly that – and then some. The pack features three unique kits, each selected for its own character and tonal footprint, giving you a wide spectrum of huge, hard-hitting drum sounds. All kits were recorded in the Back Stage room at Sound Stage Studios in Nashville by engineer Steve Blackmon – a space reflective enough to let the drums breathe, yet controlled enough to keep every detail intact. The result is the core vision of this EZX: dark, punishing, punchy and highly articulate drums tailored for modern progressive metal.
Another crucial piece of the puzzle is the preset section. These mixes combine the raw drum recordings with layered one-shot samples for extra impact, presence and depth on kicks and snares. Developed by Steve Blackmon, Toontrack and TesseracT guitarist Acle Kahney, the presets give you mix-ready drums that slice straight through even the densest arrangements. And if you prefer the unprocessed vibe, each kit includes an “Original Mix” preset for pure, natural tone.
