Metallic Tuned & Untuned Percussion for Kontakt

Rust 4 explores the remnants of Knightsen's 150-year history at the East Contra Costa Historical Society's agricultural museum in California. Extensive sampling of artifacts, including vintage farm implements and pioneer-era antiques, was done using custom studio-grade recording equipment. The captures, ranging from ball, stick, felt, to metal mallet percussion, cover various objects, such as horse-drawn plows, harvesters, combines, and a 40-foot windmill.

Recorded with high-quality equipment, including large-diaphragm, mid-side pairs, and stereo contact microphone arrays, the sounds capture nuances from indoor and outdoor environments. The curated content is presented in a multi-layer sound designer interface, offering playable instruments and effect banks categorized by object, style, tone, and sonic character. Rust 4 provides a diverse range of sounds, from delicate to brutal, resonant to raw and gritty, suitable for both full impact percussion ensembles and soloed melodic tuned percussion instruments.
